Now, you and I both know that the language of "giving something power over us" did not, in all likelihood, exist in the 1920s. It seems very much 1970s self-help speak, BUT! Would you expect any more or less from Shirley?

Season Three premieres in the US on PBS on January 6, 2012. I will be in a resort without a TV!!!!!!!!!! ARGHHHHHHH

Thank goodness PBS has an equivalent to HBO Go.

Gnomes and Shakespeare

Gnomeo and Juliet is an animated feature that my husband enjoyed immensely tonight on Starz. What he especially enjoyed were the sight gags; he said they were the best in any animation of recent memory. The laptop is similar to one we might recognize and there is even a paean to Twilight's meadow scene. Emily Blount (The Devil Wears Prada and The Young Victoria) voices Juliet and Gnomeo is given life by James McAvoy (X-Men First Class). Other famous voices include Maggie Smith, Patrick Stewart, Ozzy Osbourne, and Michael Caine.

The animation and story make it suitable (apparently) for eleven and up, but the sight gags and puns allow adults to be entertained. I didn't notice anything that would make it unsuitable for younger kids but maybe they just wouldn't get it. Perfect for those holiday gatherings.
