John Carter: Cowboys and Aliens Again?

Last year many were grossly disappointed in COWBOYS AND ALIENS which, except for it use of Daniel Craig as a hottie and Harrison Ford as an old grump, more or less failed on every other count. 

Will Disney's big budget Sci-Fi extravaganza, in 3-D,  JOHN CARTER, opening March 9 serve up Edgar Rice Burroughs with aplomb or will it be a bomb?  

See it at the theater or wait for the DVD?

I've never read the book, so how closely it follows Edgar Rice Burrough's tale is immaterial to me.  What matters is whether it is an absorbing film with a good script, story and characters.  What worries me is that I've been seeing previews for a very long time; since last summer. 
Also raising flags is the amazing amount of PR they are putting out, including this TEN MINUTE CLIP on YOUTUBE at the Disney Movie Trailer's page (as are the other two clips). It's a good thing he grasped the idea of gravity.

The actor chosen for the lead character, John Carter, is Taylor Kitsch.  Aside from the memorable name, he has some experience but not years of top billing. That could be good, or very bad. He has worked his way up and is, hopefully, not just another pretty face. He reminds me of Jason Momoa a few years ago.

Have you ever seen something get a ten minute clip; not a trailer but a real time clip? I think the canyon they run through is the same one from COWBOYS AND ALIENS. Here is another 5 minute clip  with a scene  the lead says is worth the price of admission:

Here is a featurette too with what they call the Legacy of the story: "The Princess of Mars." I like that they see the importance of Burroughs work in the history of Sci-Fi/Fantasy.  It appears to be a Time Warner piece.
