In LOST GIRL here in the USA we are apparently a season behind Canada (my politics make me want to expand on this but I will be good). Jumping in mid-stream as I have, into the third episode of Season Two, made comprehension of what was happening tough. Last night's episode was Scream a Little Dream about people being affected by a Mare, a fae who feeds of people's nightmares. I found the theatrics a bit over the top and felt they diminished the effect of the program with their campiness. Apparently being a Mare requires a lot of spinning before disapparating in a puff of inky smoke. It also requires jumping in from of people with ugly green contact lenses and looking bug eyed and shouting "Aghhhh!"

The story itself was interesting though despite the production. Somehow, outside of futuristic Science Fiction TV is a really tough medium for fantasy. There is not as much budget as with a film and the special effects look hokey. I find this on the "old-timer" networks just as mush as sci-fi. One show where the production does work is SUPERNATURAL. Even SUPERNATURAL looks campy if they depend too much on special effects and so I think they focus on the human relationships.
I have tried to locate USA formatted DVD or legal downloads for the series but they do not appear available. Grrr!

Season One:

LOST GIRL is about a girl, Bo, who doesn't know what she is, but knows that she kills everyone she touches.
The season begins with the young woman, Bo (a succubus), working at a bar. She happens to kill a man who is trying to harm a woman. This is the first time we see her suck the life out of person.
The woman she saves is Kenzi, who will be her sidekick in the series. Kenzi speaks Russian, although this has never been said on the show, we catch spats of her on the phone, so we know there is a story there, but nothing has been revealed as of yet. Kenzi is a scam artist, and she is the life of the show, the things she says are too funny.
The mythology is structured with the Light Fae run by "The Ash" and the Dark Fae run by Morriagan.
The Light Fae have a human doctor by the name of Lauren, who just happens to be gay. From the very start she is attracted to Bo (incredible chemistry there). She explains to Bo what she is and the dangers of her powers. She will help Bo control her succubus the whole season.
They have a fling, but Bo finds out that she used her and things aren't the same after.
Both factions want Bo to choose a side, but Bo doesn't want to choose. She, neutral, walks a fine edge. The Fae live among the humans, but they can never reveal themselves to the world. The Light Fae have men working at the police station as officers. The two main officers that we see in the show are:
Dyson: A sexy werewolf, who is a Light Fae. He works for the human police force but also tracks down Dark Fae that break the law. He is also Bo's love interest. The love scenes are smokin’ hot even for TV, those two make you squeal every time.
Hale: is Dyson's partner and he is a siren and he uses the power of his siren's call.
Trick: is the owner of a bar called the Da'l it is neutral ground and both and a sanctuary for both the dark and light Fae. Trick is sort of a historian and has books on the Fae and relics and weapons. Trick just happens to be the Blood King—anything he writes in his blood, happens. (We learn this at the end of season 1).
Saskia aka Aoifa aka Mommy dearest: Bo's mother and she tries to create a war,
Bo just wants to know what she is and where she came from. Trick knows more than he tells her and this theme runs all throughout season 1. The whole season we are introduced to different Fae and and the stories are super interesting.
Bo comes into her powers and things get real between her and Dyson. The season finale was great—Dyson gives up his desire for Bo to an old crone who grants wishes, in order to help her defeat her mother in the end.
